Love the podcast steve. On dominican republic vs hiati i think steve was off base on hiati. The reason Hiati is in such bad shape is because it was saddled with a huge debt to France (reparations) when it won its freedom from France (which has meant it had no money for basic infrasyructure and had to concentrate on cash crops and exports )and has been interferrd with constantly since then. I heard a good podcast about haiti on democracy now - not sure the episode. But basically its a lack of soverignty and debt
